APAPA HOLDS YEAR 2020 BUDGET RETREAT

In conformity with financial regulations Acts, Apapa Local Government complied with the provisions by holding 2020 Budget Retreat between 10th- 12th March, 2020 at Rolak Hotel and Suites, Imowo,Ijebu Ode.
The Chairman, Apapa Local Government, Hon.Adele Elijah Owolabi during the Welcome Address informed the participants that the forum is to enable performance appraisals of the previous year as well as chart a realistic course to guide activities of the current year.
It must be noted that this Retreat is positively dimensional, inclusive and unique in the sense that Legislative arm is fully integrated in achieving the goals of this year budget–
*maintenance of existing infrastructural facilities and public utilities
*maintenance of neat and tidy environment
* provision of Educational equipment and materials in our vocational center and primary schools
*continued empowerment for women and youths
*provision of drugs and other equipment for PHCs and staff clinic
*continued support for our security service providers.
“The preparation of this year budget exercise had been kicked started with the stakeholders meeting which was held on 9th December, 2019.As we are all aware ,stakeholders played a vital role in achieving the goals and objectives of the Local Government in meeting the inspiration of the populace. The principles of financing prioritized public utilities have continued to remain paramount for sustainable development. All issues raised during the stakeholders meeting have been noted ,and as is our usual practice, we would prioritized them to ensure that all wards continued to feel the impact of this administration. We would judiciously utilize our monthly statutory allocation from the Federal Government in addition to what we generate inwardly in pursuing our plans and programs”–Adele said.
The Council chief emphatically stated that revenue is the back bone of government performance and that both recurrent and capital expenditures would attract equal ratio sharing. He vehemently warned that anybody caught diverting Council’s money will face the wrath of the Law.
The HOD,Budget, planning and Statistics, Mrs Bello A.E painstakingly reviewed 2019 Budget performance. She said it is imperative we improve on IGR in 2020 Budget.
The resource Person,a lecturer at Caleb University comprehensively thrashed “Debt Management and Control”,the Theme of 2020 Budget. He critically analyzed and captured the meaning, types, causes and implications of debts in both private and public affairs.
The session was interestingly interactive with questions and answers..
The participants at the venue were the Vice- Chairman, Hon.Kenvin Gabriel Oluwaseun;The Leader of House, Hon.Taiwo Olukunle;Secretary to the Local Government, Hon.Lekan Bakare and other Councillors and Supervisors; Council Manager, Mrs Omoloju Oluseye Comfort and Managing team. Also both Finance and Administrative staff.
