The pressure has been relieved on Erik ten Hag after his Manchester United side took the three points on Saturday at Burnley.

A sublime goal from Bruno Fernandes was enough for a 1-0 victory, leaving the Red Devils ninth in the Premier League table. But there is little time for Dutch boss and his players to dwell on the win, with two crucial games against Crystal Palace coming up.

The two sides meet at Old Trafford on Tuesday as United begin their defence of the League Cup. The same venue will host both sides Saturday, just three days before United welcome Galatasaray in the Champions League.

Ten Hag has a mounting injury list to negotiate though, whilst in the background fan discontent over the ongoing takeover saga continues. A full 307 days after the Glazers announced their intention to sell, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani remain the frontrunners but neither have met the valuation of the US owners who are seemingly holding out for £6billion.

United warned over Champions League failure
Man United failing to qualify for the Champions League this season would be disastrous, accoring to football finance expert Dr Rob Wilson.

Speaking to Saxo, he said: “From Man Utd’s perspective, missing out on Champions League qualification reduces the asset to the Glazers if they are looking to sell. It does demonstrate the importance of that Champions League qualification, and why it will be so hotly contested.

“Two or more years out of the Champions League would harm Chelsea, and Newcastle have their own ambitions although financially they could afford it. Man Utd have huge transfer and debt payments to satisfy, so it’s costly for all of them.”

Ten Hag questioned by club bosses
Erik ten Hag’s decision to include four goalkeepers in the squad for the recent Champions League game against Bayern Munich has reportedly been questioned by club chiefs.

The Daily Mail claims the club’s current financial plight has led to non-football staff being restricted to signing-off anything not pre-agreed in the budget. As such, the decision to fly four goalkeepers out to Germany raised eyebrows.

Evans lauds the work of Ten Hag
Jonny Evans thinks Man United are heading in the right direction under Erik ten Hag after starting the win at Burnley.

“I’ve had some up and down moments at Man United over the years,” he’s told reporters. “I think you get that if you want to be at the top. You know, it’s going to be very up and down.

“You’ve got to be able to deal with setbacks and this club is a fantastic club, always want to be challenging at the top, so it’s all part and parcel of it. The manager’s got a good thing going here. I’m a fan of the club so I was able to watch them a lot last year, been at both finals to support. Like I say, I think the manager’s got a good thing going.”

New Sheikh Jassim bid
Man United fans have been told to brace themselves for another takeover bid from Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim.

Reporter Ben Jacobs has told Give Me Sport: “So I still don’t think that we can rule out another bid from, in particular, Sheikh Jassim, simply because we got told after the final bid deadline in April, even though that was only a soft deadline, that that would be the last offer.

“Then we got told after the fourth bid that that would be the last offer then we got told after the fifth bid that that would be the last offer. So you can never rule out another offer in this type of takeover because it’s public, it’s fluid, in many ways, the situation. And ultimately, if Sheikh Jassim in particular wants Manchester United, he may eventually have to pay what it takes, or certainly get closer to that £6bn number.”
