Zamfara State Executive Governor, Hon Dr. Bello Mohammed MON (Matawallen Maradun) is among the Governors that attended the North West Governors’ Security Meeting which held at the Muhammad Buhari House, Katsina today.
The meeting was organized by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu in order to strategize on how to address the security challenges facing the area.
Other Governors that attended the meeting include Governors of Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Niger,Taraba Jigawa, Plateau and Kogi and Inspector General of Police ,Hon Aminu Bello Masari,Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Mallam Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufai, Abubakar Sani Bello, Darius Ishaku, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, Simon Bako Lalong ,Yahaya Bello and Mohammed Adamu in their respective order.
Reading resolutions of the meeting in Hausa on behalf of the Governors at the end of meeting, Governor Matawalle said the meeting agreed to disband all activities of Yansakai in all the participating States and directed police to arrest anybody who refuses to abide by this order.
He added that the meeting also directed bandits to release all the kidnapped people under their custody and return rustled cows to their lawful owners for the purpose of sustaining the peace process initiated in the area.
He further said that the meeting resolved that all bandits should surrender all the fire arms in their possession to the security agencies.
In his brief, the Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu Said the meeting was organized to review the peace talks embarked upon by the Zamfara State Government and to also learn on how to improve and perfect the idea.
The IGP noted that very appreciable success has been recorded and that peace and reconciliation initiative as started by Governor Matawalle is the only idea that will adequately address the security challenges facing the area .
He further said that police and the State Governors will address the issues of extra judicial killings of innocent people of region and find a way of integrating the repentant bandits into viable economic activities that will make them become useful citizens in the development of the States.
While Governor Dr Umar Ganduje pointed that the long Fulani’s method of migration is no more obtainable considering the dynamic change of the current animal rearing method in modern world.
It would be recalled that Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle has initiated a peace, reconciliation and dialogue which recorded positive results including the release of over 300 persons many of whom were women and children regaining their long lost freedom.
The governor in an effort to console the released persons, usually hosts them at the Government House where their health and psychological statuses are reviewed by medical personnel while they are also treated to sumptuous meals to regain their strength and given some clothes as a modest government gesture so that when they meet their family members and other sympathizers, they are easily recognized as if nothing happened to them.
And since the commencement of the peace process, there has not been any bandits attack in any part of the state.
