It is a cacophony of voices each one swearing to know better than the other.
That is how the topic of everyday, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has become within the rank and file of the Northern political hemisphere.

For the last one year or so the subject of discussion within seasoned political analysists has been whether or not Matawallen Maradun and Shittiman Sokoto will defect to the opposition party in Zamfara State, the All Progressive Congress, APC.

And now, after months of speculations, Zamfara Governor, Bello Matawalle, is expected to formally defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) this week.

His defection is coming after the Cross River Governor, Ben Ayade and Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State left the PDP for the ruling party.

Meanwhile, just like he is widely known to be the originator of the ‘carrot and stick’ approach to politics in Nigeria, Governor Matawalle is scoring another point in his drive to secure his people from constant attacks that has led to many displaced people in the gold-rich State.

Let peace reign has been his constant song since 2015 after the ruling party lost its bid to govern Zamfara following a Supreme Court judgment which ruled that the ruling party did not conduct valid primary in the build up to the 2019 governorship election.

The APC governorship candidate, Mukhtar Idris, had been declared winner of the election after he polled 534,541 votes but the apex court upheld the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Sokoto Division, which ruled that no valid primary was conducted by the party in the state.

And in a bid to change the narratives in Zamfara State, Governor Matawalle upon taking the mantle of leadership as the Executive Governor of Zamfara State on the 29th of May 2019, His Excellency Bello Mohammed MoN (Matawallen Maradun), did not waste time in indicating his interest and passion in restoring peace to the state, transforming the economy of the state and creating a conducive atmosphere for investment, business development and partnerships for the state and prospective foreign and local investors.

His Excellency Governor Bello Matawalle swung into action, setting machineries in motion to enable him achieve his vision, by quickly establishing the Investment and Public Private Partnership Directorate, and appointing a Special Adviser to head the Directorate.
The truth is that the vision and investment ideas of the Governor has and still yielding the desired fruit as the Investment Directorate has become very busy attracting various investments to the state as well as investing the resources of Zamfara State in profitable Real Estate investments in the Capital City of Nigeria, Abuja and Kaduna, that serves as the Headquarters of Northwestern region.

Zamfara State has joined the league of States like Lagos, Kano, Jigawa, bauchi, Kaduna, Nassarawa and Kwara State, that generate huge internal revenue from their Real Estate Investments in Abuja.

As a peace loving Governor, Matawalle is not defecting to APC for a selfish reason. His reasons are clear, Zamfara first. The movement is due to constant levels of nsecurity in the state. There are too many factions in Zamfara since he became Governor just because the State has been predominantly an APC state before his emergence, peace has almost eluded the State.

Those who wants peace to reign in the state, Ahmed Rufai Sani Yerima, Governor of Zamfara State, from May 1999 to May 2007, who also served as Senator for Zamfara West and Deputy Minority Leader in the Senate and a very prominent member of the All Progressives Congress in the State, present Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami and Mallam Bakura, abd all those who have the APC structures held firmly in the State have been routing and supporting Governor Matawalle’s peace initiatives and has urged him to port to APC so as to consolidate his achievements.

A look at the party structures of each political parties in the State also shows that Governor Matawalle is making the right choice.

In 2019, Matawalle, who was the PDP governorship candidate came second in the election polling 189,452 votes while the APC governorship candidate, Mukhtar Idris, polled 534,541 out of total registered voters in the state that stood at 1,717,128 and 823,294 accredited voters, showed the strength of APC in the State. The controlled the local governments and the central government as well. More reasons why in his ‘carrot and stick’ approach, he needs to accommodate all so as to make peace reign in the state.

Governor Matawalle is a peace loving Governor. He has no financial cases hanging on his necks and has been adjudged one of the most coordinated and result driven Governor in Nigeria at several occasions.

He is a man that is full of wisdom, a model of ideal gentleman.
Governor Bello Matawalle is not a political prostitute He has etched his name on the marble of history as a man who selflessly sacrificed his political ambition to save the lives of his people. A man who voluntarily decided to sacrifice his pride for his people to live a peaceful life.
