ABEOKUTA – The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has apologized to its numerous customers for delayed alerts, explaining that recent debit alerts they are getting, are merely delayed notifications for transactions they have carried out within the past weeks.

This explanation follows several complaints trending on social media and received by the bank recently from some customers of multiple debit notifications of Automated Teller Machines/Point of Sales (ATM/POS) and card transaction(s).

THE ENCOUNTER NEWS reports that some of the bank’s customers in Abeokuta had last week protested against what they termed as illegal deduction and extortion.

Many of the customers complained that they were debited without engaging in any transaction.

But the bank in a statement issued at the weekend by the Executive Director, Group COO, Chukwuma Nweke apologized to the customers, noting that, the incident was a delayed notification for previous transactions.

“Kindly note that these are delayed notifications for ‘transactions that they have carried out within the past week.

“No additional funds have been debited from their account nor have their accounts been compromised,” the bank stated.

The bank, therefore, apologized to customers for the inconvenience caused and assured them that the issue is being resolved.
